When you know how Thor bagged three times its budget, it is not really a surprise to see that Thor 2 is smashing records all over. The original movie to which Thor 2 is the sequel was made with $150 million and managed to earn something around $450 million making it the 15th highest grossing movie of 2011. Come Thor 2 that steak is continuing. The movie has boxed around $327 million in its opening week!
Thor: The Dark World has hammered hard on the box office with a $861 million grossing opening. This is the fourth highest of the year, falling short of Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Fast & Furious 6.
As far as the star cast is concerned this is the second best career opening for Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Natalie Portman alike.
Internationally, Thor: The Dark World has raked in $327 million which in comparison to Thor’s $449.3 million from the total global earnings, is surely saying something about what the movie could do in the coming weeks.
In other statistics, it is the 9th highest November opening of North America for all times – the movie topping that list is last year’s Skyfall that groped $88.4 million.
For Hemsworth we can easily assume the movie to be a wise choice for continuing the streak started by MTV Movie Award for Best Fight in Avengers. Same is the case with Tom Hiddleston for he was the all favorite Best Villain Award winner along with MTV Movie Award for Best Fight for the same movie.
That is a lot of millions, wouldn’t you say? How about checking out the movie and hit back here to tell us what you make of it?
