The longtime avant-garde couple Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter separated in early 2014, confirmed by Carter’s spokesperson, Melody Korenbrot, to People on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014.
The publicist Korenbrot said the couple split up peacefully. She stated that Burton and Carter are still friends and take care of their children, Billy and Nelly, together. Billy is 11 years old while Nelly is four years younger than her brother. She asked for the family’s privacy.
The reason for the split was not yet confirmed. However, Burton was rumored in 2013 for infidelity by kissing an unknown blonde woman in a London alley.
The couple never married despite their relationship which lasted 13 years. They were famous as a pair not just because of their creative partnership. Their relationship was nontraditional for the couple was living in separate houses in London. Carter even supported Burton in decorating their Christmas tree with dead babies and slime balls in December 2007.
Carter and Burton proved their friendship despite the split by watching a performance together of the hit musical “Cats” recently in London. Burton was taking a picture with Nicole Scherzinger, the star of the show, with Carter photobombing.
In 2001, after Carter’s performance in “Planet of the Apes,” a romantic and creative partnership blossomed between the actress and the film’s director, Burton. Other projects of the couple were “Alice in Wonderland,” “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Dark Shadows.”
Burton said in an interview with Total Film magazine that he always loved working with Carter. He claimed that Carter was always “secure” in being an actress.
“There’s no conflict. She’s the most secure actress I’ve ever met,” Burton told Total Film magazine.
The latest films of the 48-year-old actress are “The Lone Ranger” and “Les Miserables.”
“Big Eyes” is the newest film of the 56-year-old director Burton. The movie earned Golden Globe nominations for Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz’s performances. Lana del Rey’s song, which is the film’s original soundtrack, was also nominated.
