TNT has recently ordered the season renewals for three of its hit dramas: “Falling Skies,” “Major Crimes” and the new series, “The Last Ship,” starring Eric Dane. It seemed that the cable network has finally found its perfect formula for its summer TV schedule. Read on to find more about the latest update on the following renewed series from TNT.
We’re only halfway binge-ing on the latest seasons of the long-running series “Falling Skies” and “Major Crimes,” but TNT wanted more of them next summer. The season renewals was made after the continued strong ratings and followings that the series receive every week since their premieres. TNT President Michael Wright announced the great news in a statement posted on Zap2it.
“TNT’s refreshed and recharged drama brand is soaring this summer, and that is due in large part to these three enormously popular dramas,” said Wright in the Zap2it article.
“Falling Skies” has been given another 10-episode order for its fifth and final season, which was first aired in 2011. Created by Robert Rodat, it is executively produced by Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Robert Rodat, Graham Yost, Greg Beeman and Remi Aubuchon.
The sci-fi drama series follows the journey of Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) and the other survivors of several invasions made by various alien species. The series also stars Moon Bloodgood (Anne Glass), Drew Roy (Hal Mason), Connor Jessup (Ben Mason), Colin Cunningham (John Pope), Maxim Knight (Matt Mason), Seychelle Gabriel (Lourdes Delgado), Sarah Carter (Maggie), Mpho Koaho (Anthony), Will Patton (Dan Weaver) and Scarlett Byrne (Lexi Glass-Mason).
Following its successful run, “Major Crimes” is renewed for 15 more episodes for its fourth season. The crime procedural drama, which was aired in 2012, has become one of the rarest examples of a successful TV series spinoff. TV and film actress Kyra Sedwick previously took on the role of Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson in another successful TNT series called “The Closer.” It wrapped up in 2012 after seven seasons.
The series was well-received and was given a spinoff entitled “Major Crimes.” The series took off with Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) as the new head of the Major Crimes Division after Johnson left the position. Following its successful run, “Major Crimes” was also given its own possible spinoff. Movie News Guide (MNG) previously reported that the upcoming series will mark the return of Jon Tenney for his role as FBI Agent Fritz Howard and Johnson’s husband.
The network also renewed the freshman post-apocalyptic drama, “The Last Ship,” which premiered on June 22, 2014. The series was renewed with 13-episodes rather than the previous ten episodes in Season 1. It was also reported that “The Last Ship” joined the two hit series in the list of Top 5 scripted series for the Summer 2014. It boosted TNT’s place among the most-watched cable network in the 25-54 age demographic.
Furthermore, Deadline reported that the network is still deciding over the renewal of another long-running series, “Rizzoli & Isles” and the new “Murder in the First” series starring Kathleen Robertson from “Bates Motel.”
And that’s it for TNT’s season renewal for “Falling Skies,” “Major Crimes” and “The Last Ship.” Stay tuned regularly for the latest updates on your favorite TV series, only here at Movie News Guide (MNG).
