The fantasy drama series “The Librarians” has been renewed for another ten episodes for the second season. It is set to air later this year, according to reports. Read on for more of the news story.
The announcement regarding the renewal of the series was confirmed in a TNT press release published on various entertainment news sites. As one of cable’s strongest new series, the news comes as no surprise to its fans.
“The Librarians,” which first debuted in Dec. 2014, averaged at least 11.4 million viewers weekly. It was despite some of its episodes airing during the holiday lull. The numbers reflect telecasts over different platforms, including VOD, mobile viewing and DVR playback.
“The Librarians” was also the second highest-rating cable series that launched in 2014, following “The Last Ship,” which is also under TNT.
“The Librarians” was spun off a hit TV movie franchise starring Noah Wyle, which first launched ten years ago and has since created a fandom. The show is about an ancient organization that protects the world’s magical and mystical secrets in a place holed up under the Metropolitan Public Library. The series stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim and John Larroquette. Each of their characters offer their own brand of expertise to make their quests and missions a success.
Occasionally, Wyle makes his guest appearance in this series, but he remains active behind the scenes as its executive producer, along with Dean Devlin, Marc Roskin and John Rogers under Electric Entertainment.
“What happened was, rather than being a young boys’ movie, it became something more family oriented. When it ended up hitting in December, it became something that kids, grandkids and grandparents could all gather around and watch. When the second movie came out, it started to become a Christmas tradition,” said Devlin via ComingSoon.Net in relation to the the success of “The Librarians,” as a holiday movie back then. He relates that the idea to do a series has long been on the table, but only materialized ten years after when TNT said they want to do the TV show.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
