Previously on the “True Detective” (“Form and Void” Season 1 Episode 8 air date: March 9, 2014), detective Rustin Spencer “Rust” Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and detective Martin Eric “Marty” Hart (Woody Harrelson) finally got down to the bottom of the 17-year-old mystery. The case happened in 1995 and was reopened in 2012. By the end of the show, the killer was caught, both detectives survived the attacks, and justice was served.

“True Detective” Season Finale Review:

Viewers rated the first season of the program with 98% in Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. In addition, the Web site’s top critics have given the show an 88% rating.

Jeff Jensen of Entertainment Weekly described “True Detective” as simply a program about two detectives narrating a story.

“The wasteland noir of True Detective is many things at once — an enthralling murder mystery about history, culture, and heroic character; a tour de force for stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey,” said Jensen in the Entertainment Weekly report.

Since this is a new series with a not-so-new theme, speculations are going around on how the final season would be like.

Allen St. John of Forbes said that he expected the finale to turn out as more of a part of the previous seven episodes.

“Harmontown” and “Community” creator Dan Harmon described in an interview with Vanity Fair that the season finale could not go wrong.

“There’s no way for the finale to do me wrong because what’s for sale with that show isn’t the pay-off, it’s smelling the roses along the way. […] It’s just sort of unfolding like a flower and, at this point, enough of the flower is unfolded that if the last petal is a kazoo, I’m not going to go ‘this is a bad flower,’” said Harmon in the Vanity Fair report.

And that’s it for the “True Detective” Season 1 Episode 8 “Form and Void” recap. It aired on March 9, 2014, Sunday, at 9:00 p.m. in HBO. Watch replays on HBO. Stay tuned for more news about the “True Detective” including spoilers and episode recaps.
