‘True Detective’ Season 2 Premiere Draws Mixed Responses

‘True Detective,” a name familiar with crime fiction lovers was developed by creator Nic Pizzolatto and presented as an anthology series. True to their word, both the creator and the makers had announced the second season of their show. The first season starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan with the story based in Louisiana. With the second season, the story shifts to California and unlike the first one stars a completely different star cast essentially shifting focus on these new characters. Starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams, the season premiere opened with a mixed response.

Response from different media outlets have been mixed with some praising the series for what it has brought and some believing that the story in no way is as good or will be good like the predecessor. A protagonist, an antagonist and the feud that ensues is exactly what is expected of this series.

According to E! “True Detective” is back with the kind of intriguing story that only the series could present. Colin Farrell was signed on to play the lead protagonist called Detective Ray Velcoro whose only mission seems to be making peace with his son and be a better father to him.

There’s however a little problem with that and that being the question of whether he really is the father of his own son or is his son actually the son of the man who raped his ex-wife. What is even more odd that the ex-wife chooses to take custody of the son because Ray has a bad temper and a definite anger instinct to himself.

On the other hand,Vince Vaughn plays Frank, a criminal and a businessman who has a whole lot of bad operations going on for himself and has all the bad associations in the world however he does give Ray a piece of information on who his ex-wife’s rapist is. Given that Frank does prove himself to be a character who should be looked into further. Rachel McAdams plays another detective Ani Bezzerides who has a sex drive going on for herself not before capturing her own sister from a not so welcome facility. The character is known to have a dark history behind her which makes her a subject of interest as well.

With the new season’s premiere, it will be interesting to know how does this one shape itself and what new mystery can the audiences expect.
