The Television Critics Association (TCA) held their 30th annual TCA Awards last Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif. Terry Crews hosted the said event, which had big winners like “True Detective,” “Veep” and “Breaking Bad.” Read on for more details about what went on.

The TCA event, which is held bi-annually,  during January in Pasedena and July in Beverly Hills,  is a gathering of all television journalists and critics from the United States and Canada. For one to two weeks, the participants attend various panels presented by different networks and studios, where they receive updates about current and upcoming television shows, as well as interview show creators, executive producers, writers and actors.

The networks and studios present their spring and summer shows every January, while fall and winter programming are discussed during the July gathering. The occasion held in July was highlighted by honoring the best of television from the previous season with the TCA Awards. The winners were voted by the association’s over 200 members.

“True Detective” went home with two awards, for Best Actor – Drama for Matthew McConaughey and Best Miniseries. “Veep” also had two trophies, for Best Actress – Comedy for Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Best Comedy, sharing the feat with “Louie.”

The Good Wife,” which was robbed of a nomination at the Emmy Awards, was judged as Best Drama. “Orange Is the New Black” was voted the winner for Best New Program, while “Breaking Bad” ran away with the ultimate award as Program of the Year for the second year in a row.

“It’s a little sad saying goodbye. This is the last time we’ll be up here, unless you create the category of newly departed show,” remarked Bryan Cranston, as published on Variety, after receiving the award for “Breaking Bad.”
