Enjoying all the fairy tale movies due to come out? I hope so because here comes another one: a spec script for a Sleeping Beauty feature has been making its rounds in H-town with True Grit standout Hailee Steinfeld, 14, interested in playing the drowsy princess.
The Sleeping Beauty project is untitled, but Deadline reports that Lindsay Devlin has penned a “revisionist take” on the story. In the tale, Steinfeld enters a dream world during her evil witch induced nap and tries to find a way out. Will the prince wake her up? Will she wake herself up in some quasi Girl Power! moment?
Disney is busy working on their own Sleeping Beauty project entitled Maleficent. The tale is expected to be from the view of the witch. Written by Linda Woolverton with Tim Burton rumored to either direct or produce, the Mouse House (and me) has been reportedly after hot stuff Angelina Jolie for the role of the evil witch.
This news arrives in the midst of casting for two rival Snow White projects with Kristen Stewart playing the princess in the MGM feature, Snow White and the Huntsman, while Julia Roberts plays the evil queen in Relativity Media’s Brothers Grimm version.
Steinfeld enjoyed a lot of success from her performance in True Grit, including an Oscar nomination.
