Jamie Pressly is the star of “Jennifer Falls,” a new TV comedy that airs on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. on TV Land. But before starring on this show, Pressly was most well-known for her role as Joy Turner in the TV series “My Name Is Earl,” which earned her an Emmy Award. Read on to learn more about the actress and her work.
Pressly, a native of North Carolina, started modeling at the age of 13 and spent her teenage years doing cover shoots and modeling stints in Milan and Tokyo. In 1997, she starred in her first feature film, “Poison Ivy: The New Seduction,” and did several TV guest stints. She became a series regular on the show “Jack and Jill,” which aired from 1999 to 2001 in the defunct WB Network (now partly The CW).
In 2005, Pressly snagged the role of Joy Turner on “My Name Is Earl,” an NBC sitcom that helped her win her first Emmy award. Watch the video below of her acceptance speech for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Award in 2007.
When “My Name Is Earl” ended in 2009, Pressly kept herself busy being a mom and only considered returning to TV five years after with “Jennifer Falls.”
In the second video below, Pressly explained why she chose to take a break to raise her son and how being away from television helped the viewers forget her previous character, Joy, so she can convincingly take on the role of Jennifer Doyle in her new series.
“Jennifer Falls” is the story of a high-profile executive who lost everything and has to return to her hometown and live with her mother to start over.
In an exclusive interview with Hollywood Life, Pressly said that plenty of women would be able to relate to Jennifer’s predicament, considering so many people lose their jobs in real life. She also said that she has something in common with Jennifer’s type-A personality, but if she did fall on hard times herself, moving in with her mother wouldn’t be an option, even if she knows she’ll be welcomed.
