Kristen Stewart tops Forbes’ list of highest paid actress with her $34.5 million earning from May 2011 to May 2012. The 22 year old actress is said to be an integral part to the popular and lucrative Twilight franchise. According to Forbes, she became indispensable and this was the reason why the studio has to pay up.
At second place is Cameron Diaz with $34 million. The 39 year old actress was last seen in What to Expect When You’re Expecting, which didn’t do well in the box office. She did get a hit with Bad Teacher, which made $216 million worldwide.
At far third is America’s Sweetheart Sandra Bullock with $25 million. She took a break from filming after doing The Blind Side in 2009. Angelina Jolie topped the list last year, slid to fourth place with $20 million earnings.
Charlize Theron, Stewart’s co-star in Snow White and the Huntsman and also stars in Prometheus, earned $18 million to grab fifth place. Jennifer Aniston managed to stay in the top ten with her $11 million earnings during the same time period.
But despite the high earnings, Forbes said that women are still paid less than men in the movie industry. The top ten women in the list earned a total of $200 million while the top men got $361 million for the same period.
