Tyra Banks, 42, and Naomi Campbell, 46, made reconciliation on The Tyra Banks Show more than 10 years ago. Recently, the former, who is set to join The New Celebrity Apprentice, confessed that she is still afraid of the latter.
“To this day, I’m very scared of her,” Us Weekly quoted Banks as saying on Oct. 14, referring to Campbell, during an interview with the Norwegian-Swedish talk show Skavlan. “I don’t want to go too deep into the past, but it was very difficult, like some of the lowest times in my life, dealing with that.”
Before becoming a supermodel and the creator and host of America’s Next Top Model, Banks was rejected by six modeling agencies in Los Angeles. She was still a teenager at the time and her frustration made her decide to search of a modeling job outside the United States.
One of the places Banks went to was Paris. She said that while she did really well as a model very quickly, it was very difficult because the fashion industry considered her as a replacement for Campbell at the time.
For Banks, it was not fair for Campbell. Still, the former said she does not condone the actions and the harsh response of the latter.
When they had a sit-down interview on The Tyra Banks Show, Campbell denied that she did not react harshly to their comparisons years ago. However, she eventually apologized to Banks.
The said apology meant so much to Banks that she claimed it did a lot to her. Soon, the former supermodel will be back on the small screen with Jessica Alba, Steve Ballmer and Warren Buffett as The New Celebrity Apprentice advisers.
Meanwhile, America’s Next Top Model Season 23 is set to premiere on VH1 on Dec. 12. Banks will serve as one of the executive producers but the newly revamped reality modeling competition show will be hosted by Rita Ora along with celebrity stylist Law Roach, Paper magazine chief creative officer Drew Elliott and model Ashley Graham as judges.
