Tyrese Gibson has been campaigning for the role of Green Lantern for a while now. The Furious 7 star has not been mixing words either as he made it clear that he will be a good candidate for John Stewart in Green Lantern Corps.

He has now taken his desire to play the superhero a step further as his Instagram post teases a major detail.

Tyrese Gibson’s Instagram post

Comicbook.com reported that Gibson posted a very interesting post on Instagram. According to the outlet, he is doing more than just teasing a potential casting in the superhero role.

He posted a picture of John Stewart presumably from the Injustice 2 game and it is actually the caption that catches attention.

The caption says, “Its time,” hinting that he either has been cast in the role or fans should wait to hear a major announcement soon.

Campaign

Gibson’s desire to play Green Lantern is not new. For the last two years, he has been actively campaigning for the role. He is vocal about fan arts depicting him in the role of John Stewart and has openly praised them.

Cinema Blend even reported that in an interview, Gibson was more than open while talking about the superhero role. According to him, he has had a couple of meetings with Warner Bros. but is yet to know the outcome.

He also stated that he is waiting to put on the green suit and do his thing. The actor also said that he is aware of fans who are waiting to see him in the suit and affirmed that he will keep following up.

If he does get the part, he will become one of the Fast and Furious stars who has transitioned into superhero roles. His co-stars like Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson are playing Wonder Woman and Black Adam in DC.

While Vin Diesel and Kurt Russell play Marvel characters, Groot and Ego the Living Planet. Gibson will become a major player in the superhero universe if he gets to don the power ring.

Other contenders

While Gibson has been quite interested in the role, there are other contenders who have been trying to convince that they are good choices for the role of John Stewart.

Actors like Lance Gross, Sterling K. Brown have been campaigning for the role as well. Gross had shared an Instagram post of the power ring, while Brown stated that there still no decision about who will play Stewart.

Apart from these actors, fans want Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes to play Stewart or have pitched Nate Parker, Omari Hardwick and Donald Glover for the role.

Possible appearance

All this chatter around Green Lantern has been going on because rumors suggest one or more Green Lantern will be showing up in this year’s Justice League.

Until now, only six heroes have been confirmed to be a part of the ensemble movie but reports have stated that a Lantern will show up as well.

It has not been revealed which Lantern will it be but an appearance is being added so as to connect it to the solo movie Green Lantern Corps. Also because the solo movie will have Hal Jordan and John Stewart as the two main Lanterns, it becomes crucial to establish them.

Hal Jordan’s casting

Stewart is not the only Lantern DC is yet to cast as the other Lantern showing up in Green Lantern Corps has also not been cast yet. There is a shortlist of actors for Hal Jordan, but amongst them, Armie Hammer is rumored to be playing the role.

He has liked Green Lantern related posts on Twitter and Instagram by Henry Cavill and DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns respectively and has been trolling fans about the role.

Plot

No official plot or synopsis has been revealed yet but reports have mentioned that DC is looking to make Green Lantern Corps something along the lines of Lethal Weapon. However, most of the action will take place in outer space with the two Lanterns running the show.

Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to release in 2020.
