Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) is the new Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie. While the rest of the cast are yet to be announced, the 20-year-old already has an idea who he wants to join him in his treasure-hunting adventure.
From Consoles To The Big Screen
The movie adaptation of the popular video game of the same title is already underway. Over the years, it went through several scripts and filmmakers including David O. Russell of Silver Linings Playbook.
Recently, Sony announced that Shawn Levy, executive producer of Netflix’s Stranger Things will helm the upcoming movie as the director. Holland, the new Spider-Man, was also cast as the young Nathan Drake.
According to a report by Deadline, the movie will follow Drake before he was the rebellious treasure hunter that fans know and love today. It is expected to feature the pivotal moment in which Drake met the businessman Victor “Sully” Sullivan who became his mentor and father figure.
The movie was initially planned to be a straightforward adaptation of the game. Nathan Fillion previously expressed interest in the role of Nathan Drake. Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg was briefly attached to the project. However, Holland’s performance as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming inspired Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman to make the movie a prequel to the game. The story is reportedly based on a sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. As of this writing, no release date has been made public yet.
The Uncharted movie is based on an action-adventure video game of the same title. Develop by Naughty Dog, the video game followed Nathan Drake, a rebellious treasure-hunter who travels the world to uncover historical mysteries.
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was the first to be released in 2007. It was followed by three more sequels and a prequel.
A Marvel-ous Reunion
The cast who will join Holland in the upcoming movie is yet to be picked, but the actor already has an idea who he wants to work with. While doing press rounds for Spider-Man: Homecoming, the English actor revealed who he wants to see as Sully.
“I think Jake Gyllenhaal could be really cool,” he told Yahoo! Movies on a Facebook Live interview. “But I actually went to the Jurassic World 2 film set the other day to visit my friend who’s directing it and Chris Pratt is on that film, who I’ve become very good friends with over the last few months. I think he would be a great Sully, I think it could be cool. Because if it was an older movie, I would say that Chris should play Nathan, but I think he would be a cool Sully, and I love working with Chris, so if I could work with Chris some more that would be great.”
Holland joined Pratt in Avengers: Infinity War. The upcoming superhero movie will see every character who have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe team up to defeat the biggest threat in the universe: the Mad Titan Thanos played by Josh Brolin.
It is interesting that Holland mentioned Pratt. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 actor was one of the popular names rumored to be in the running for the role of Nathan Drake.
Both Pratt and Gyllenhaal are great choices for the role of Sully. Whoever, neither have expressed interest in taking the part. Pratt already has a busy schedule ahead with Jurassic World 2 and Avengers 3 and 4 in development.
Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal will also try to redeem himself after the disappointment that was Prince of Persia. He recently signed up to star in the movie adaptation of The Division.
