Spoilers ahead! Read only if you want to learn more about Movie News Guide’s (MNG) “Under the Dome” Season 2 Episode 5 “Reconciliation” spoilers, including a brief recap of Episode 4 “Revelation.”

Previously on “Force Majeure,“ Joe (Colin Ford) and the others found out, through a yearbook dated in 1988, that his mother, Pauline, was friends with Sam (Eddie Cahill), the mysterious girl named Melanie (Grace Victoria Cox) and the imprisoned Lyle (Dwight Yoakam). He was also convinced that he would tell all about it if Joe would set Lyle free from prison.

In Season 2 Episode 4 “Revelation” (air date: July 21, 2014), Big Jim (Dean Norris) and Rebecca (Karla Crome) talked about their dwindling food supply. She let him examine the census she made since the dome came down on Chester’s Mill. She told him that the coming days will start to take a toll on everyone. Big Jim agreed that they must find a solution about it. Rebecca convinced him that they should put a virus on their livestock so they would know the people who were “fit to survive.” Later, both of them had an epiphany that they shouldn’t poison their livestock and water supply.

Barbie (Mike Vogel), Joe and Norrie (Mackenzie Lintz) found out more about the real identity of Melanie. They learned that Melanie was friends with Lyle, Sam and Pauline (Sherry Stringfield) before she went missing in 1988. She was in a relationship with Sam, while Lyle and Pauline were also a couple. When they came back to the egg’s first location, her memories were brought back again. She was pushed to a ditch when she tried to protect the said egg from harm.

Joe agreed to Lyle’s wishes to set the prisoner free. Lyle gave him the hand-painted postcards that Pauline sent to him. They went to Sam’s cabin and found out that Pauline and Melanie predicted the same visions happening now in Chester’s Mill. To Joe’s surprise, he was knocked out by Lyle before he could find more about Melanie’s journal.

Before he passed out, Joe learned that her mother is still alive, but she faked her death. On the other hand, Julia refused Sam’s advances on her. It was after they successfully prevented Big Jim and Rebecca from doing their plans. Julia (Rachelle Lefevre) then saw the scratches on his chest that may have been done by Angie (Britt Robertson) before she was killed.

SPOILER ALERT: “Under the Dome” Season 2 Episode 5 “Reconcilliation” is directed by Ed Ornelas and Cathryn Humphris. It airs on Monday, July 14, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on CBS.

According to Spoiler TV, Big Jim will be affected by the failed plan that he hatched with Rebecca. He will be relieved from his position as the leader of the townspeople living in Chester’s Mill. Julia will step as the new leader, as well as the Monarch. Meanwhile, Melanie’s search for her identity will lead Joe and Norrie near the walls of the dome.
