The latest issue of the LGBT magazine, OUT, is on stand and is more special than before, the reason are many. First of all, President Obama has been chosen as the cover person of this issue. With this he has become the first sitting US President to pose for any LGBT Magazine. The cover shows a B&W candid picture of Mr. President and few words that read “OUR PRESIDENT: ALLY. HERO. ICON” defining him.
Secondly, Mr. President has been included in the list of top 100 influential people of 2015 in the LGBT community and the last reason to read this season’s OUT is an exclusive interview of the President in which he has shared his experience of meeting a gay for first time and how he decided to fight on behalf of LGBT community to get them the right of equality.
Obama also discussed how United States can play a constructive role in challenging it’s alliances such as Saudi Arabia who do not respect LGBT rights and have some astonishing human rights record?
“It I sour duty to Safeguard and promote the human rights of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is a fundamental part of our foreign policy and an element of our engagements with governments all over the world, including our close partners,” said Obama.
He further said, “It can make for some difficult conversations, but the United States will continue to raise our voice on behalf of universal human rights.”
The interview was conducted by OUT’s editor-in-chief, Aaron Hicklin.
