It seems like “Covert Affairs” isn’t the only USA Network series to get the axe. According to Deadline, network’s legal comedy, “Benched.” It starred Eliza Coupe and Jay Harrington, and which premiered last Oct. 28, 2014, and aired at 10:30 p.m. every Tuesday after that, has just been cancelled. Read on to learn more about this story.

“Benched” centered around Nina Whitley, who was portrayed by Eliza Coupe. Whitley , who was having a breakdown in her old firm, found a job as a public defender, which was a far cry from what she was used to- corporate law. Along the way, she discovered that she routinely had to go against her ex-fiance, District Attorney Trent Barber (Carter MacIntyre). She became good friends with the bunch of misfits in the Public Defender office that she worked for. She met Micah (Jolene Purdy), their intern; Carlos (Oscar Nunez), who truly believed in his job; Cheryl (Maria Bamford), who, despite her good intentions, never really won that much cases; and Phil Quinlan (Jay Harrington) a former hotshot lawyer turned carefree Public Defender, who turned out to be a romantic interest for Nina.

The series premiered on Oct. 28, 2014 at 10:30 p.m., and aired at that time slot every Tuesday night, until its finale on Dec. 30, 2014.

According to Deadline, earlier on, the network had already stated that they were committed to their “current series”, which included “Sirens,” “Benched,” and “Playing House.” “Sirens” has since then been renewed, as well as “Playing House”, despite the low numbers during the live airings, because the “VOD” or “delayed viewings” displayed better numbers, while the numbers of “Benched” did not continue to improve. Another reason that was cited as one of the reasons for the cancellation because of the low number of views is the fact that the show premiered before the original premiere date, and did not fare well alongside the regular television network, Fall season programs and shows.
