Ian Somerhalder has always believed in contribution of Elena Gilbert’s [Nina Dobrev] character to the show. Somerhalder expressed his doubts to Variety saying that like all he was thinking that with Elena’s exit the show would meet a huge departure, especially because of the show’s typical formula.
“By virtue of the fact that it wasn’t a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula,” he added.
Paul Wesley who plays the character of Stefan also told TV Insider that he believed that Nina Dobrev will return. Wesley said, “Elena’s still a very big part of the story. Her body’s in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up.”
