Previously on “The Vampire Diaries” (“Man on Fire” Season 5 Episode 19), Enzo (Michael Malarkey) time traveled to the 1960s. He wanted to find out what really happened to the love of his life, Maggie (Heather Hemmens). The result of this hunt for his one true love led him to finding out that the ripper who killed Maggie was no other than his best friend, Damon (Ian Somerhalder). So here’s what happened. Maggie’s head has been ripped from her body. Elena (Nina Dobrev) asked Stefan (Paul Wesley) if he did it during his ripping days. He denied it. Enzo was furious. He actually thought that Stefan killed Maggie because of the journal found near her dead body. Stefan clarified that he was tame by 1960s. Then, who could have killed Maggie?
Enzo called Damon and asked him look over Stefan’s journals. He said that Stefan already burned those. Still, Enzo accused Stefan of the murder, but before Damon could defend his brother, Enzo hung up. Enzo began the research about Maggie’s death. She died at Mystic Falls when John F. Kennedy (JFK) won the presidential elections.
Damon killed Enzo in the Augustinian fire. Maggie returned from Whitmore and was told about the demise of her loved one. She then started searching for Damon. You see, Maggie had so much love for Enzo. She even begged him to turn her into a vampire, but he did not. To avenge her mate, she called Damon and pretended to be a reporter. She asked him about the fire in 1958. Damon said he remembered it and narrated his story and how a certain switch in his head turns off negative feelings. Then, Maggie tried to stab him with a syringe. Damon defended himself, thus ripping Maggie.
Enzo would not let what happened go. He wanted revenge. In a confrontation between Stefan and Enzo, Stefan’s fist has found its way into Enzo’s chest. Enzo thought that it would be hard for Damon to bear the truth that his brother killed his best friend. As Enzo passed through Bonnie to the Other Side, he clearly was not over with his revenge yet.
Markos (Raffi Barsoumian) had discovered the possible way to lift the witches curse on the Travelers. It would be through the use of doppelganger blood. Apparently, it could not only lift the curse, but it could also turn back a vampire into a human, only that it would be dead. In order to be a vampire, one should be dead. Basically, when you get “healed,” you would die.
The Travelers wanted to permanently settle someplace else. Julian, the Traveler in Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) body, slit Sloan’s (Caitlin McHugh) throat. But then Sloan was still alive! Tyler managed to take a hold of himself over Julian. Then, Sloan sat up, and Tyler handed her the bag of blood.
As for Bonnie (Kat Graham), things were not doing so well. You see, if there was no presence of magic, then there would be no Other Side, which means, no Bonnie too. Bonnie was trying to keep this from Jeremy.
