The sons of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) will finish what their father has started in the finale of Vikings Season 4. In this week’s episode, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen), Bjorn Ironheart (Alexander Ludwig) and others will face King Ecbert’s (Linus Roache) son, Prince Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford). According to show creator, Michael Hirst, someone’s story will end by the upcoming episode.
Blood in Revenge
Hirst previously stated that revenge is the primary motivator for any Viking. This has never been truer in the season finale of History’s critically-acclaimed period drama. In the episode aptly titled The Reckoning, the Lothbroks will face King Ecbert for, perhaps, the final time to avenge the death of their father.
Here is the synopsis for Vikings Season 4 Episode 20: “Prince Aethelwulf finds himself subject to the Vikings’ battle master plan; Ecbert remains behind with a plan of his own.” While it did not offer much information about the finale, it hinted that the King of Wessex will not go down without a fight. Ragnar’s nemesis is old now, but he still has some tricks up his sleeve. Hopefully, it will protect him from the wrath of the Lothbroks.
Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) is facing some challenges on her own. The Queen of Kattegat has to face King Harald (Peter Franzen) who returns to take back his throne. The show is tying up loose ends in the finale of Vikings Season 4.
Death Comes to Vikings Season 4 Finale
The final reckoning will not end without taking a life (or more). Hirst told EW that more deaths will happen in the remaining episode of the historical drama. “Death comes to important people,” he warned.
Moreover, fans will not be disappointed by the battle between the Vikings and the Saxons. Hirst also boasted that the fight scenes will be, in his own words, wonderful. He added that the upcoming face-off between the Vikings and the Saxons will keep viewers at the edge of their seats. Perhaps, it will be even bigger than the battle between Ragnar and his brother, Rollo (Clive Standen), in Paris.
But, the award-winning screenwriter assured that the next episode will not purely be bloodshed. At the heart of Vikings Season 4, beyond the brutal deaths, is a “huge amount of emotional life.” In addition, he revealed that the finale will give way for the next story arc that will be the center of the next season. Strap in for an exciting and full of surprises episode ahead. Vikings Season 4 Episode 20 will air on Feb. 2, 2017, on History.
