After Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), will Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) be the next core character to fall in Vikings Season 4? The actress teased that the shield-maiden will eventually make her way to Valhalla as history dictates. However, it will not happen this season.
Katheryn Winnick Teases Lagertha’s Death in Vikings Season 4
To recap, the Seer warned the Queen of Kattegat that she will be killed and by one of the sons of Ragnar. However, in Episode 17, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), her son, saved her from the vengeance of Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen). While she did not follow her first husband (and love of her life) to the grave, the gods have already decided her fate: she will die.
Winnick has hinted on social media. During one of her Q&A on Twitter, the actress was asked whether Lagertha will die in Vikings Season 4. The 39-year-old stated: “ It IS History…”

Lagertha is a fan-favorite character. And after the surprising deaths of Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and Ragnar, many fear that the original cast members are dropping one by one. Moreover, the next generation of Vikings is on the rise and ready to claim their rightful places in the world and in history. The time will come that Lagertha and Rollo (Clive Standen) and Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) will also have to leave at some point.
Vikings Season 5
One thing is for sure, however. They will survive the current season. Both Winnick and Standen have finished filming Vikings Season 5 a few months ago.
“I’ve got a happy problem at the moment where I’m in two shows,” Standen said in a previous interview. “I’m going to be doing Taken until October time and I’m going to pick up and re-join the Vikings team later on in Season 5. I’m going straight from Toronto back to Dublin, so it’s a good problem to have!”
Meanwhile, Winnick has also filmed her parts for Season 5 last year. The actress documented behind-the-scenes preparations and kept fans updated on her social media accounts. Here, she is with the stars of Season 5. Vikings Season 4 airs every Wednesday night on History.
