Vikings Season 5 is going to be a lot different now that its hero Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) is dead. In the anticipated new season of the historical drama, new character will emerge and venture farther into the world. In a new post, actress Katheryn Winnkick (Lagertha) teases a new king who will play a major role in the story of Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), Hvitsek (Marco Ilso) and Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen).

All Hail The King

The second half of the fourth season pretty much made a soft reboot as the old characters died one by one and the existing story lines were completed. So, it made sense that a slew of new characters will be introduced in the upcoming season. One of which is another royalty who may be a friend or foe to Ragnar’s sons.

On a post on Instagram, Winnick revealed that her real-life brothers were cast in the fifth installment of the critically-lauded historical drama. Moreover, they might be playing a huge part in the series.

“This happened,” the actress wrote on the caption. “Yesterday on the set of Vikings[,] all [three] Winnicks shared the same scene… same frame.” She also added the tags #Lagertha and #KingAngantyr.

While History remains quite secretive about the new season, Winnick has been documenting her life and experiences behind the camera. That includes photos from the set of Vikings Season 5 in Dublin, Ireland.

Going back to the post, the actress who plays the role of Lagertha hinted that one of her brothers might be playing the role of a new king named Angantyr.

Fans believe that the new character who will enter the series in the fifth season is Angantyr Heidreksson, the first Swedish ruler from the House of Munso, noted Den of Geek. How he will figure into the story remains to be seen, but he is not the only monarch on the show. Harald Finehair (Peter Franzen) is poised to become the first king of Norway and Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford) is the new ruler of Wessex. It seems like there is going to be a bigger battle in Vikings Season 5.

Rollo To Become A Different Man

Aside from Winnick, another member of the core cast that survived the fourth season is Rollo, Ragnar’s brother and a character played by Clive Standen. According to the 35-year-old, Rollo there will be a shift in Rollo in Season 5.

“Nearly every season, [creator] Michael Hirst has allowed me to reinvent this man, and Season 5 is no different,” the actor told TV Guide. “I think when he comes back, all bets are off … You’ll see a very different Rollo.”

One thing remains intact, however: his love for his family. While the last season saw the Viking head back to Normandy to his waiting wife and son. But Standen teased that he will eventually reunite with his old people.

The Taken actor added that he is going to have a heated confrontation with his former family and friends. He promised that his reunion with his brothers’ sons will be “explosive, but not in the ways that you’d expect.”

Vikings Season 5 Details

The next season of Vikings will follow Ragnar’s sons as they find their rightful places in the world. Jonathan Rhys Myers signed up to the series as Bishop Heahmund, a warrior bishop who will eventually challenge Ivar the Boneless. Meanwhile, former WWE star Adam Copeland (a.k.a Atom-Smasher) was also cast as Ketill Flatnose, one of the warriors who will join Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) to the voyage to set-up a settlement in Iceland.
