The DC Extended Universe are bringing more superheroes from the pages of comic books to the big screen and, as a result, fans are hoping that some of their favorites are making the transition. With Warner Bros. greenlighting Justice League and Gotham City Sirens, many believe that Dinah Lance a.k.a Black Canary will next be cast and the Internet already picked the perfect actor for the role.

TV’s Resident Bada**

Fans have an idea who they want to see as their favorite superheroes. A popular choice for the role of Poison Ivy, who is expected to make her DCEU debut in Gotham City Sirens, is Emma Stone. They also want the former Amazing Spider-Man star as Barbara Gordon in Joss Whedon’s solo Batgirl movie. But for Black Canary, it is Katheryn Winnick that the Internet has chosen.

Winnick is best known for her role as Lagertha in History’s Vikings. That is probably one of the reasons why fans want to see her suit up as Black Canary. Winnick is no stranger to fight scenes having battled as a shield-maiden alongside fellow Northsmen in the Emmy-winning period drama.

Moreover, she already looks like Dinah Lance thanks to her natural blonde hair and bright blue eyes! Just look at one of the fan-made photos of the actress in costume as the Black Canary!

But does the actress even want the gig? Absolutely! In fact, she already has a Canary Cry for when Warner Bros. inevitably call her to audition for the role of Black Canary.

On Twitter, Winnick was asked by a fan about the comic book character. This is her response:

“Been itching to try the Canary Cry,” she tweeted. “I got my own version.”

Fans have been waiting to see Winnick as a superhero for a really long time now. Before Brie Larson was announced as Captain Marvel last year, Winnick was the Internet’s top pick for the role.

However, landing the role of Black Canary will be a little challenging. Fans of the television series Arrow are also hoping that Katie Cassidy will reprise the role of Laurel Lance on the big screen. Old rumors also claim that Abbey Lee (Mad max: Fury RoadGods of Egypt) and Alona Tal (SupernaturalVeronica Mars) are frontrunners for the role.

If cast, Winnick has an opportunity to fight alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman, Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in Justice League. However, filming of the first movie (out of two) has already wrapped up last year so she has to wait until 2019/2020 to make her debut in the DCEU. DC has delayed the sequel which was originally slated to be released on June 14, 2019, to let director Zack Snyder work on another project.

She might also appear alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in Gotham City Sirens which, according to reports, will also introduce the Birds of Prey (Black Canary, Huntress, Oracle) to the DC Extended Universe.

What’s Next For Winnick

In the meantime, Winnick still has a big year ahead. She will next be seen as Laurie Chambers in The Dark Tower, the movie adaptation of the novel written by Stephen King. She stars alongside Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. After several delays, the movie will finally be released on Aug. 4 in theaters worldwide.

Meanwhile, she is also set to return as Lagertha in History’s Vikings Season 5. The character continues to fight even after the death of her ex-husband Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). The history drama has already wrapped up filming, but no premiere date has been announced so far.
