People from all generations love the British author Roald Dahl for timeless classics such as “Matilda,” “James and the Giant Peach” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, in whatever format it is presented in. This time around, Walt Disney and legendary director Steven Spielberg have decided to work together in order to bring another Roald Dahl classic to the big screen, “The BFG”, whose teaser trailer just recently dropped.
“The BFG”, written by Roald Dahl, centers around a young orphan girl named Sophie, who meets the Big Friendly Giant, or “BFC”, who collects dreams and distributes them to the people of the world.
The two then become friends and embark on a journey of a lifetime in which Sophie visits the BFG’s country, and together, they try to warn the Queen of England regarding the existence of the threat of the man-eating giants.
The clip features actress Ruby Barnhill, who portrays Sophie, narrating as she goes down the hall towards the shared bedroom of the orphanage.
During the clip, she narrates that several children have gone missing, and that she believes, contrary to popular belief, that the “witching hour” is at three o’clock in the morning, and that she believes this to be so as she is always awake at that time.
She then gives out a list of instructions of what to do when the clock strikes three. According to her, one must stay in bed and never look out the window.
However, Barnhill doesn’t heed her own advice, and goes out to the orphanage’s window balcony. From there, she sees a gigantic hand appear from around the corner, followed by a gigantic eye.
She then rushes to her bed, only to get scooped up by the titular Big Friendly Giant, who will be portrayed by Mark Rylance.
According to Screen Rant, the film is slated to be released in July 2016, and it also marks Spielberg’s first live-action film with Walt Disney.
Aside from this, Slash Film mentions that fans of Spielberg and of Roald Dahl stories should get excited about the fact that the dark tone of the teaser trailer is highly reminiscent of Spielberg’s 1991 fantasy and adventure film, “Hook.”
