The apes are back! Production for “War for the Planet of the Apes” kicked into high gear with the return of Judy Greer to the movie, reprising her role as Caesar’s mate Cornelia. Read on for more details.
According to a Hollywood Reporter bulletin, Judy Greer is all set to return as the Chimpanzee Cornelia in the “Planet of the Apes” sequel. Greer is having a good year, having already been starred in some of the biggest hits: “Jurassic World,” “Entourage” and the Disney-ride rip-off “Tomorrowland.”
Also returning to planet of the apes is Andy Serkis as the chief-monkey, “Caesar,” who, if reports are to be believed, will be transcending from ape-chief to ape-lord in ‘War,’ and will be pushing for peace. His character is being described in the rumor mills as a sort of Moses analogy, although it is not yet known whether he will actually part a sea or not. The events of the movie will supposedly take place a year after “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” which ended in an all-out battle between the humans and the chimps.
While it is yet too early for the apes to start speaking with perfect syntax as we see in the original “Planet of the Apes”, it would not be remiss that they will utter some stray words here and there. To be honest though, most of us just want that to happen so we get to see Judy Greer lay down some of the scathing ‘Cheryl’ sark that we so love in “Archer.”
Karin Konoval will also be returning as the gentle orangutan “Maurice,” while this installment sees the inclusion of a new ape-member in the form of Aleks Paunovic (“Continuum”), who will be joining Caesar’s team.‘War’ also sees the inclusion of Woody Harrellson who will be playing ‘The Colonel,’ the supposed antagonist of this film.
The production for the film has already begun with ‘Dawn’ director Matt Reeves back behind the camera.
“War For The Planet Of The Apes” is slated to hit the theatres on July 14, 2017.
