Warner Bros.’ (WB) superhero flick, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” has moved its theatrical release date from May 2016 to March 25, 2016. Read on for more details on this story.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has moved the superhero team-up movie’s, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” theatrical release from May 2016 to March 25, 2016. The “Superman” sequel, which was first announced on San Diego Comic-Con, was moved due to Warner Bros.’ plan of releasing future DC franchise projects as opposed to Marvel and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchises. Warner has announced nine untitled upcoming DC titles and two “untitled WB event film,” taking DC-titled movies into 2020.

Earlier, WB has announced plans for a “Justice League” movie — Warner’s answer to Marvel’s superhero team-up juggernaut, “The Avengers.” WB’s release strategy will span nine DC titles from years 2016 to 2020, with two films for 2016 and 2017, three in 2018, two more in 2019 and another three by 2020.

With “Batman v. Superman’s” move, the second release date will avoid a superhero pic showdown with Marvel and Disney’s “Captain America 3,” dated for May 6, 2016. Warner Bros.’ other project, “Geostorm,” which was dated same as “Batman v. Superman’s” second release will be re-dated soon. “Geostorm” is a sci-fi disaster movie written and directed by Dean Devlin and stars Gerard Butler.

“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will follow the story of both Batman and Superman, along with some other known DC characters — Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman — after the events of “Man of Steel,” where Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman. The ensemble cast will also include Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane and Jeremy Irons. “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is written by Chris Terrio, with Zack Snyder as director.
