Warner Bros. reveals a teaser trailer for “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” Read on for more details about the trailer.

At the San Diego Comic-Con Hall H, Warner Bros. exclusively reveals to the attendees a teaser trailer for its upcoming epic film “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” It is the final installment in Peter Jackson’s trilogy of “The Hobbit,” based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s top-grossing novel, which was preceded by the films, “An Unexpected Journey” (2012) and “The Desolation of Smaug” (2013).

In the “Battle of the Five Armies,” following the events of “Desolation of Smaug,” the heroes and races/factions of mMiddle Earth must now rally their armies for an upcoming battle with the ferocious dragon, Smaug , along with a new threat — the fast mobilizing forces of Sauron.

The film features an ensemble cast including Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans,  James Nesbitt, Ken Stott, Lee Pace and Benedict Cumberbatch. Several actors from the past films will reprise their roles including Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis.  The film also features Manu Bennett, Sylvester McCoy, Stephen Fry, Mikael Persbrandt, Barry Humphries and Lawrence Makoare.

“The Hobbit” trilogy is directed by Peter Jackson. The 53-year-old director is best known for his work as director and producer of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy: “The Fellowship of the Ring” (2001); “The Two Towers” (2002); “The Return of the King” (2003) and its prequel, “The Hobbit” trilogy. His other notable works are “Heavenly Creatures” (1994), “Forgotten Silver” (1995), “The Frighteners” (1996), “King Kong” (2005) and “The Lovely Bones” (2009). He also produced “District 9” (2009), “The Adventures of Tintin” (2011) and the documentary “West of Memphis” (2012).

The screenplay is written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson himself.
“The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies” is produced by New Line Cinema, Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) and WingNut Films and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is scheduled for release on Dec. 12, 2014 in the United Kingdom and Dec. 17, 2014 in the United States.
