“Welcome to Sweden” Season 1 Episode 6 “Parents!” and Episode 7 “Homesick” will air back-to-back on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. on NBC. Find out what you should be expecting in our episode guide below. But first, a quick recap from the last episode.
Previously, in the episode “Fitting In” (air date: Aug. 7, 2014), Bruce (Greg Poehler) was struggling to fit in with Emma’s friends due to the language barrier. They have stopped inviting Emma (Josephine Bornebusch) to their gatherings because Bruce dampens the moment. Emma encouraged him to find his own friends, preferably locals and not someone who’s also learning the language, like Hassan, his Middle Eastern friend who still thinks Bruce is Canadian.
To show that he’s making an effort, Bruce got in touch with Lisa, Emma’s friend, and talked to her in Swedish. He eventually got him and Emma invited to Lisa’s upcoming party. Feeling bolder, Bruce also invited Emma’s mom, Viveka (Lena Olin), on a spa date. Their time together at the spa was going well until Bruce ruined the moment once again due to a misunderstanding with the service staff.
At Lisa’s party, Bruce tried to mingle with the Swedes, but forgot that he must observe this Swedish tradition: to remove one’s shoes when one is in someone else’s house. Thus, Bruce earned the ire of Lisa’s husband because his shoes ruined the hardwood floors he just installed.
Bruce also decided to “break-up” with Hassan in this episode, but Hassan beat him to it first when he said that they shouldn’t be hanging out together anymore.
Spoiler Alert: Season 1 Episode 6 “Parents!” and Episode 7 “Homesick” air back-to-back on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. on NBC.
In the upcoming episode “Parents!,” Wayne (Patrick Duffy) and Nancy (Illeana Douglas), who were introduced in the last episode, are going to break away from their holiday cruise and will instead come to Sweden to visit their son. They are also going to meet Emma’s parents for the first time, which means that a clash of culture could happen, especially when Emma’s crazy uncle is also expected to show up.
How will the Wiik’s find their visitors? And do Wayne and Nancy think Bruce is doing well in Sweden? Bruce will show his best self to appease his parents that moving to Sweden was the right decision.
Meanwhile, along with the surprise visit, Emma also has a surprising news to share her family. What could this be about?
