“What If” Synopsis:

The film is about Wallace (Radcliffe), a medical school dropout, who was still nursing from a broken heart when he met Chantry (Kazan), an animator, in a party. Wallace somehow felt that he could see himself dating again until Chantry mentioned that she has a boyfriend — Ben (Rafe Spall).

Keeping things casual, Wallace even went to dinner with Chantry and Ben. Wallace and Chantry soon hang out often. Wallace tried to fight off his feelings for Chantry, but things got different when Ben was assigned in Dublin. Instead of drawing the line between them, the two got even closer when Chantry set up Wallace with her sister Dalia (Megan Park).

“What If” Review:

As of this writing, the critics in Rotten Tomatoes have given the film an 86 percent, while 95 percent of the moviegoers would like to see it.

John DeFore of The Hollywood Reporter cited the film as a strong step for Daniel Radcliffe after “Harry Potter.”

Meanwhile, Variety’s Justin Chang described the romantic comedy as smart, pointing out how fresh and fun it was. He also mentioned about the charming chemistry between Radcliffe and Kazan, although Driver stood out as a supporting cast.

“Roughly three parts charming to one part cloying, “The F Word” attempts and largely succeeds at pulling off a smart, self-aware riff on romantic-comedy conventions while maintaining a core of earnest feeling,” wrote Chang in his review on Variety.

“What If” was originally entitled as “The F Word” until CBS Films changed it. According to Variety, CBS Films paid $2.5 million for the rights as the film had already premiered in Toronto Film Festival in 2013.
