What to Expect From HBO’s ‘The Brink’

It looks like “Veep” isn’t the only political comedy on HBO’s playbook, as they will be bringing in a show that is a perfect meld of dark comedy and politics in the Tim Robbins and Jack Black starrer, “The Brink.” Spoiler TV has released a featurette of the show, and the official website of the series has posted a link to the show’s trailer, and has posted the show’s official synopsis and cast information, so that viewers and audiences will definitely tune in to this hilariously dangerous new comedy. Read on to learn more about the new political comedy “The Brink” on HBO.

According to the official website of the show, the series is a dark comedy focusing the the geopolitical crisis between the United States and Pakistan. Both countries are slowly coming to “the brink” of a nuclear third world war. The only ones who can prevent this from happening are United States Secretary of State Walter Larson (Tim Robbins), a lowly Foreign Service officer named Alex Talbot (Jack Black) and a Navy fighter pilot named Zeke Tilson (Pablo Schrieber). The series also stars Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Eric Ladin and Carla Gugino.

According to the official website, Alex Talbot is a Foreign Service Officer stationed at Islamabad, Pakistan, and Aasif Mandvi portrays Rafiq Massoud, Alex’s driver and “unwilling confidant”. Robbins’ character, Walter Larson, is described on the official website as a womanizer who is almost always drunk.

The link to the official trailer of the series has also been posted on the official website of the show.

The trailer began by showing Larson wondering during a meeting as to who they had on the streets of Islamabad as a coup d’etat and a possible war was imminent.

Because of this Alex excitedly brought his driver, Rafiq, along with him during his “mission.” It iincluded his diplomatic immunity, or rather his passport, being taken away; being held at gunpoint;  being slapped on the face while being interrogated by Pakistani soldiers; and negotiating a hostage crisis, in which Larson allowed the ransom money, $200,000 to be printed right off the bat, while sipping a drink while lying down in his private jet.

Meanwhile, Zeke is seen giving some pills to a co-pilot before taking off from a Navy carrier. He warned his friend that they were going to be in for a ride as he had mixed up the pills that he had taken.

Spoiler TV has also released an exclusive featurette in which the actors, creators, director and executive producers talked about the show.

In the featurette, Roberto Benabib, the show’s creator and executive producer described the show as “a comedy with a lot on its mind.” Meanwhile, Jay Roach, the show’s director and executive producer told the viewers that after reading the script, he realized how different the show was, and mentioned that the show wasn’t afraid to poke fun of real life issues. The show was also described as a show that perfectly blended comedy and realistic drama together.

And that was all for all the updates and spoilers on  “The Brink.” For more news, updates and recaps on “The Brink” and other television shows, keep on following Movie News Guide (MNG).
