Could Darth Vader appear in the young Han Solo movie? According to reports, Spencer Wilding, the actor who played the role of the Sith Lord in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, might have signed up in the still untitled spin-off.

The Empire Strikes Back

Wildling’s appearance in the upcoming movie is not exactly confirmed yet. The information came from Fandomfest, a comic-con in Louisville, Kentucky. Wildling was supposed to attend the convention and meet fans, but the actor dropped out.

According to Cinema Blend, the reason for the cancellation was, “filming the newest film in the Star Wars universe” although, as of this writing, Fandomfest listed that the actor will not be able to attend because of his filming commitment.

This fired up speculations that Darth Vader will be in the young Han Solo movie. The still-untitled spin-off is the only project from the sci-fi franchise that is in production this month. While Lucasfilm and Disney are scheduled to release Star Wars: The Last Jedi later this year, it is not scheduled to have reshoots a the present time.

So if Wilding is filming a new Star Wars movie as reported, he is likely a part of the young Han Solo movie. Granted, his confirmed involvement does not necessarily mean he will play the role of Darth Vader. After all, he was not the only actor to don the iconic black helmet for last year’s Rogue One. Because Wilding was unavailable during the reshoots, someone else took on the role of Darth Vader in the spin-off. The final scene wherein the Sith Lord faced an army of rebels in order to retrieve the blueprint plans stolen by Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) was portrayed by another actor.

An appearance of Darth Vader in the upcoming movie does make sense. The project that stars Alden Ehrenreich as the young space smuggler will explore the life of the fan-favorite character before he met Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Sir Alec Guinness) in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Other Familiar Faces

If true, Wilding is not the only character who will appear in the young Han Solo movie. Director Ron Howard confirmed that Warwick Davis would also be involved in the young Han Solo movie.

The Independent reported that Howard was asked by a fan when his ’80s movie Willow will get a sequel. The fantasy flick also starred Davis as the titular character. This prompted Howard to reveal that the actor will also appear in his new movie.

“Glad you are asking for one,” the director stated. “I directed Warwick Davis for the first time in 30 years today. It made me happy.”

Warwick also responded that Howard had not lost his genius. “Reminded me what a wonderful experience Willow was, made so by your expert direction and friendship,” he praised the filmmaker. “After 30 years, you’ve still got the magic!”

This is not Warwick’s first role in the Star Wars universe. In fact, he was an important part of the sci-fi franchise since he was a kid. His first big screen appearance was in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi back in 1983 where he played the role of the Ewok Wicket.

Throughout the years, he appeared as multiple aliens in the prequels and the sequels. Most recently, he was Wollivan, an alien in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. What character he will play next remains under tight wraps.

Also rumored to be in the untitled anthology is Jabba the Hutt, the space crime lord who first appeared in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

The young Han Solo movie also stars Woody Harrelson as Han Solo’s mentor Beckett. Meanwhile, Donald Glover also signed up as the young Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge complete the cast. The movie will land on the big screen on May 25, 2018.
