Wonder Woman is finally ready to save the world on the big screen. A few days before the movie officially opens in theaters worldwide, director Patty Jenkins shared what she has planned for the inevitable sequel.
The Amazonian Warrior In History
The first Wonder Woman movie is going explore how the Amazonian Princess Diana (Gal Gadot) ended up in man’s world. From her home in Themyscira, the unconquerable warrior became the protector of humankind.
The upcoming movie will see the hero’s role in the first world war. In the still unannounced sequel, she will cross the Atlantic.
“I think it’s very important that she goes on to be a very international superhero,” Jenkins told Fandango. In her first solo outing, she fought alongside English soldiers against the war god Ares but, in her next movie, fans will see how she ended up in America where she eventually will join the Justice League. “I can’t wait to bring her to America as well,” the filmmaker added.
Diana definitely still has a lot of stories to tell. The sequel is expected to bridge the gap between the 20th century when she fought with Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and when she crossed paths with Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the 21st Century.
It is definitely something that Jenkins is excited to explore in the future. “It’s something that one will know soon,” she said about her plans for the sequel. “Like, what she has been doing all of these years, but it’s definitely something I have thought a lot about.”
Warner Bros. is yet to greenlight Wonder Woman 2. While Justice League director Zack Snyder revealed sequel plans are on the cards, nothing has been made official just yet. The studio is probably waiting for the new movie to be released to gauge the audience’s interest before they announce what comes next. Wonder Woman will open in theaters worldwide starting June 2.
Wonder Woman Box Office Prediction
However, a sequel announcement is likely on the way. Wonder Woman has been making waves on social media and frequently tops entertainment media sites as the most anticipated movie of summer. Despite predictions that the first female-led superhero movie in more than a decade will reel in disappointing figures at the box office, the upcoming movie repeatedly proves that there is an overwhelming demand for more female leads in the comic book movie industry.
Gadot’s solo movie is going to be facing some tough competitors this season. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is already out and is currently topping the box office. In the next few days, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. will also be released.
Thus, experts predict that DC’s biggest female superhero will cash in $65 million at the domestic box office. In comparison, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice grossed $330 million in the U.S. Meanwhile, Suicide Squad is in the same tune with $325 million at the domestic market.
Wonder Woman and Spider-Man: Homecoming are expected to lock horns, but there is no competition because the former is already making waves in social media. In a report by CNBC, a few days before the movie’s release, Wonder Woman emerged to become the most anticipated movie this summer.
