“Magic in the Moonlight” Synopsis:

Set in the 1920s, the film is about the magician Stanley and Sophie who is a spirit medium who might have something to do with swindling an affluent clan. After his performance, Stanley is asked to travel to France to investigate about Sophie. The wealthy family is so into her, believing anything that she says, not to mention that a young lad not only sees her as a visionary but also a vision. Meanwhile, Stanley’s aunt, Aunt Vanessa, finds Sophie as pleasing even if she is a fake. Aunt Vanessa is stunned when Sophie mentions that she had an affair with someone from the Parliament. Stanley realizes that there is more to Sophie—more mystery, more magic.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stone mentioned about watching Allen play his clarinet at Carlyle during Monday nights, and she named her dog after him, “Alvie,” and added that Alvie and Allen had the same personality type. She also said that she was not able to have a word with the great director as she would not be able to act normal in front of her heroes.

“People I admire I’m really okay with, but there are people that I literally hold as heroes in my life, which made me want to do what I do and made me understand life in a different way – and he’s one of them. So I wouldn’t be so cool around him,” said Stone in the Rolling Stone report.
