The sequel World War Z 2 has been beset with uncertainty since the time it was announced in 2015. Even now that the scheduled release date is nearing, the movie has not wrapped up production yet. Fortunately, the studio has started negotiations with David Fincher. Lead actor Brad Pitt is rooting for the Gone Girl director since last year.

The release date which was set last year is June 9, 2017, barely two months from now and even if the production will work double time, there is a huge possibility that it will be deferred. Although the film has been in various stages of development, fans are not hoping that they will see the film in June.

Movie Web reported that David Ellison who is behind the project informed that they have the script ready, had closed some negotiations but he did not confirm Fincher’s acceptance to helm the film.

Linking Fincher’s name to the film will reportedly boost its potential. It can be recalled that the first movie had a series of reshoots and problems were aplenty during production. However, the film made an astounding $540 million worldwide.

World War Z 2 Release Date Deferred Again

The producers are now eyeing a 2018 or 2019 release because of the uncertainty of the production to finish. But many are afraid for the film. Pushing it further next year will affect the film’s performance. It might compete with the Dracula Untold sequel Mummy Reboot starring Tom Cruise. Being part of the Universal Monster Cinematic Universe, the film will surely put behind any possible contender to the box office topnotch.

Brad Pitt and David Fincher had a long history of working together. They collaborated in 1995’s Se7en, 1999’s Fight Club, and 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Steven Knight joined aboard to write the screenplay. He informed that the sequel will start anew on a clean slate. But he did not give some hints about the plot. Production is pushed to start anytime to get an earlier release next year.

In the first movie, Brad Pitt played the role of Gerry Lane, a former employee of the UN. When his family was stuck in a dense traffic jam, he suspected that it was not just an ordinary jam. The city later becomes chaotic. A deadly virus spread rapidly in just a single bite and turning people to become violent, cruel, and uncontrollable. Lane showed heroism by finding the cause and later halted the spread of the virus.

Stay tuned for updates on David Fincher. The new release date of World War Z 2 is yet to be announced.

Be prepared for anything…
