Wynonna is torn between two lovers in Wynonna Earp Season 2. Ahead of Friday’s premiere, Melanie Scrofano sat down in an interview to talk about her character’s journey in the new season and what the gun-slinging granddaughter of Wyatt Earp thinks about the blossoming love triangle between her, Doc Holiday (Tim Rozon) and Agent Dolls (Shamier Anderson).

On Wynonna’s Connections

While fans can still expect the same exciting action scenes in the supernatural drama, the second season noticeably will have more focus on character development, especially among the supporting characters. Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), for example, will have a bigger arc as she traces her real ancestry. Moreover, Scrofano shared that there will be a major shake-up this season as each character gets thrown into unlikely pairings.

“Everybody is affected differently by the curse,” the actor told TV-Eh. “Wynonna and Officer Haught [Katherine Barrell] didn’t work much together last season, so it was interesting to see how that relationship evolved and I found it really fun and touching. I really loved that one. It was interesting to see different perspectives on the curse.”

Officer Haught, of course, is one-half of the popular pairing WayHaught and girlfriend of Wynonna’s sister Waverly. Not that the relationship is out in the open, it looks like Wynonna would also spend a lot of time getting to know the local town cop.

However, Waverly’s romance with Haught is not something that Wynonna should be concerned about. The granddaughter of Wyatt Earp has a dilemma of her own: there is a developing love triangle between Wynonna, Dolls, and Doc. Will this season see the character finally make her pick?

Not quite so. Scrofano commented that Wynonna has a lot on her hands and, therefore, does not really have time for romance.

“Wynonna doesn’t have time to choose. She’s like, ‘Boys are important and everything, but I have to save the world! So, sorry for your feelings, and I’m going to do my best but I’ve got a job to do,'” the actor explained. “I like that aspect of it. She doesn’t want to be harsh, but at the same time, the clock is ticking.”

Wynonna’s State Of Mind

The actor also discussed her character in Wynonna Earp Season 2. After the challenges she had to face in Season 1, the demon hunter is even braver in the upcoming season. However, her victories are not inflating her ego. It is her duty to keep her little town safe that is giving her the bravado she needs to face whatever creature threatens her and the people she loves.

Scrofano also commented that the narrative is so fast-paced because the main character cannot pause for a second and think about her situation. If that ever happens, the actor thinks that Wynonna is going to have a meltdown if she ever thinks about everything that has happened so far. Her focus this season is on her responsibility.

Wynonna Earp Season 2 Details

Earlier this year, showrunner Emily Andras revealed that a new character will join Wynonna, Waverly and the rest of the team in their quest to return demons in Purgatory. Rosita, a recurring character played by Tamara Duarte, was recruited by Doc to help the team.

“She shows up and shakes up a lot of relationships on the show,” the screenwriter teased via Variety.

Moreover, the stakes are higher this time around because the second season will examine “the true nature of family” and the question of whether a person who has to make life/death decisions can be really good.

Wynonna Earp Season 2 will premiere on June 9. Meanwhile, catch the complete first season on Netflix.
