Fans will see a different side of Waverly in Wynonna Earp Season 2 on SyFy. According to Dominique Provosy-Chalkley, after coming in contact with a mysterious goo, her character and one-half of the WayHaught couple will cause a bit of conflict when the supernatural drama returns this Friday.

Waverly Takes Center Stage

Waverly Earp might have started off as a sidekick to her older sister, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano), in Season 1, but she eventually became a hero in her own right and a fan-favorite. In Season 2, she will have an even bigger role.

The first season finale saw a number of cliffhangers for Waverly. For one, she and her sister discovered that she might not be an Earp after all. Moreover, the mysterious goo she came in contact with will have an adverse effect on her own narrative moving forward.

“Naturally there are a few complications that come with that,” the actor said about the goo in an interview with NBC News. “They affect all of the major relationships in Waverly’s life, primarily Nicole and Wynonna.”

The first season also saw Waverly and local cop Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell) as a couple. However, as expected, their relationship will not be smooth-sailing from here on out. A changed Waverly caused by the black goo might cause a major conflict between the two.

“She’s more daring, which consequently ties into her sexuality. But I wouldn’t say that’s a defining factor of Dark Waverly,” the 27-year-old shared. “What I would say is that … maybe, just maybe, Waverly Waverly doesn’t have too much control over Dark Waverly.”

She pleaded for fans not to be angry at her character which hints that the new Waverly might do something that many would not approve of. Moreover, she admits that the dark version of her character will stick around for at least half of the second season.

More WayHaught Scenes

Fortunately for Waverly, she has her sweet, supportive girlfriend by her side. Provost-Chalkley revealed that the relationship between Waverly and Nicole will further develop in the upcoming season. She explained that, now that their romance is out in the open, the WayHaught couple will explore the physical and emotional aspect of their relationship.

The characters of Provost-Chalkley and Barrell are not only big hits to fans, but are also important players in the LGBTQ movement in television. Waverly and Nicole survive a time when lesbian characters are being killed off in a lot of series. This has become known as the “Burry Your Gays” trope.

In addition, Provost-Chalkley teased that aside from the supernatural problems in Season 2, Waverly and Nicole also have to face issues that regular couples have to go through. “We’re seeing two women who are working out how to be a couple and how to be in a relationship amongst all this madness that’s happening around them,” the actor stated. She warned that there are going to be hurdles that the WayHaught couple has to go through in Season 2.

Wynonna Earp Season 2 Episode 1 Details

Meanwhile, Scrofano talked to TV, Eh? about Season 2 Episode 1 titled Steel Bars and Stone Walls. According to the actor, fans can expect an action-packed premiere episode this Friday.

Season 2 will explore the life of Agent Dolls played by Shamier Anderson and Scrofano admitted that the character has a complexity that will play into how they will work together as a team. She also mentioned that Dolls will have almost the same journey as Wynonna.

“Just like Wynonna kind of sucks at the beginning at her job,” she pointed out. Trusting her instinct and everything that was considered a mess are what have her team an “edge.”

Wynonna Earp Season 2 Episode 1 (Steel bars and Stone Walls) will air on June 9 on SyFy.
