The X Factor Australian Grand Final began with a bang with Cyrus Villanueva performing three songs for the audience. He went for the gold with “Earned it,” “Stone,” and “Jealous,” and these numbers showcased his best technique.
Australia Network News reports that Cyrus Villanueva made his mentor cry with his rendition of Labrinth’s hit, “Jealous.” His mentor, Chris Isaak said that he might need a handkerchief after listening to Cyrus sing, “Jealous.” Other judges were equally pleased with his work.
“There has been a level of perfection to your performances tonight that no one can deny,” Dannii Minogue told the Grand Final hopeful. James Blunt called Cyrus a constant professional. Sebastian told Cyrus that his performances never get boring. And all the judges were happy to predict a sterling recording career for Cyrus. Dannii Minogue pledged her support for his career, should he want help from her.
It is notable that Labrinth’s “Jealous” isn’t an easy song to sing. For starters, the notes have to be stretched and cut short in various places. Cyrus didn’t follow the song too faithfully, but improvised on it to great effect. His voice was warm and emotionally resonant and his face registered the emotions he was singing about.
All in all, Cyrus was a pleasure to watch on X Factor. As always, the final decision will largely depends on the number of votes he gets, but he has the kind of energy and stage presence that will obviously get him the audience attention.
We wonder if the Phillipino-Australian singer is already looking to write a record. Cyrus Villanueva told the press that he already has a big fan base in Philippines and he could make it work for him. He also told the press that he would like to experiment with the American market too.
