Ask anyone at first glance and they will confess to being more than surprised when Oscar Isaac was cast as the God-like mutant villain Apocalypse. Many criticized the makers choice and thought how would an average actor portray the role of a giant sized Apocalypse? But if you really want to know just why Oscar was chosen, Simon Kinberg has the answer.
According to the writer-director, when they were casting for the role of Apocalypse, they needed an actor who not only had gravity and could go against James McAvoy’s Professor X and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, but they also needed someone who could beat them.
Looking at Oscar Isaac, Kinberg stated that the actor had all of the above and, more importantly, he is an incredible and extraordinary dramatic actor. Further praising Isaac, the writer added that the “X-Men: Apocalypse” star is also fun since playing Apocalypse needed him to sit through an extensive make-up session and then later putting on the suit as well. There wasn’t one moment when Isaac complained and which in fact made him a sweet and fun guy to be around.
Isaac mentioned that the makers ended up creating his portrayal of Apocalypse as something from the 80’s and mixed with something new. Though there are chances that fans might not love his portrayal of Apocalypse but this happens to be his favorite version of all. For the time being, we will leave it on “X-Men: Apocalypse” to show just how good their God-like being is when the movie releases on May 27th next year.
