A new X-Men movie is headed for the big screens on 2019. While fans are eager to see what X-Men: Dark Phoenix has in store, talks about a possible Storm spinoff is already underway.
A new trailer for the upcoming superhero movie has been revealed at CineEurope this week. The first footage will probably be kept from the general public until a month or two from now. Nonetheless, those fortunate enough to watch it were all praises for the X-Men Dark Phoenix trailer. Many even said it was better than expected.
Fox has yet to reveal a release date for the movie, but someone from the X-Men Dark Phoenix cast is already talking about a possible spinoff. Alexandra Shipp, who plays Storm in the series, is looking forward to having a standalone film for the super heroine.
Star Hopes for X-Men Storm Movie
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Shipp said that while there are no talks yet, she is hoping fans will get to see the movie “they have been dying for.”
“There are so many different storylines that we could take on when it comes to Storm — whether she is losing her powers or going back to Africa,” the actress shared.
“I just want there to be a message of ‘this woman doesn’t need a man.’ Just one movie where a woman doesn’t need a man, really.”
Storm may have been in every X-Men movie since 2000, she has always taken a supporting role. Past movies have focused on Wolverine, Professor X, Magneto, and now Jean Grey, but Storm has yet to receive her spotlight. Fans of the character originally portrayed by Halle Berry would love to see a solo film soon.
As for X-Men Dark Phoenix, it will be the fourth movie off the rebooted franchise that focuses on the younger mutants. This time it will look into Jean Grey as she battles with the Phoenix force insider her. The film will be the directorial debut of longtime X-Men writer, Simon Kinberg.
