Television, in any kind of format, all around the world, whether it be a variety show, a special, a television movie or drama, is always a numbers game, as producers and networks look at one thing to determine the success of a particular television show or series- ratings. Ratings are a double edged sword as television shows that are beloved by many, but fail to produce good enough ratings are sometimes axed too soon, which end up enraging the fans of a particular show. However, at the same time, a television show with great ratings often merits it an extension on the airwaves, especially if more episodes are ordered, or better yet, if an entire new season is ordered for the next year. However, today, on South Korean television, there is one show that has been continuing to dominate the airwaves and the hearts of its viewers, SBS’ medical and action drama, “Yong Pal”. This of course has merited itself a place in Korean television history, as well as an extended run on the airwaves.
