Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with forty-year-old Liza Miller (Sutton Foster) getting rejected at a job interview at a publishing house due to her age.
Afterwards, she called up her daughter, Caitlin (Tessa Albertson), who was in Mumbai for an exchange student program. She went there in order to tell her that she was selling their house as they couldn’t afford it. It was after her ex-husband had gambled away all of their money.
Later that night, she met up with her best friend, Maggie (Debi Mazar) at a bar in New York. She met a tattoo artist named Josh (Nico Tortorella), who thought that she was twenty-six and asked her out on a date. Because of this, Maggie came up with the idea that Liza should pass herself as twenty-six in order to land a job. After a makeover and a tutorial on the latest trends in music, she was able to get. She had managed to get a job as an assistant to Diana Trout (Miriam Shor), the marketing head of a publishing house.
As she told Maggie all about it in the bathroom, she was befriended by Kelsey Peters (Hilary Duff), an editor at the company. She then told her that Diana hated younger girls like them as she was “forty three and divorced,” and reassured her that she would take care of her.
The next day, during her first day of work, she was told to make a twitter account for Jane Austen and to tweet as her because their house was going to reissue “Pride and Prejudice.” While she was researching how to set up a Twitter account, Kelsey invited her to join her in her Krav Maga class, and they later had drinks with Kelsey’s boyfriend, Thad (Dan Amboyer). However, during the night, she was almost found out as she didn’t exactly follow the same trends as the younger girls did, She didn’t know Thad’s friends who had recently graduated from Dartmouth, as she was from there, but from decades ago. However, Maggie reassured her that she did want to pull this off for “another chance at her twenties.”
The next day, she informed Diana that Jane Austen’s Twitter account had around one thousand followers already. She pitched the idea that they should get a world renowned author to write the introduction of the reissue. However, Diana dismissed the idea and made her get some coffee for her.
At the staff meeting, Diana stole Liza’s idea, and Liza had to run out as her phone started to ring. Kelsey then helped her turn off the alarm that Josh had set to remind her that they had a date. After remembering that “you can only be in your twenties once,” she decided to go.
That night, as she stared at him outside the bar where they were supposed to meet, Caitlin called and told her mother that she wanted to go back home. Liza then welcomed the idea, and started to walk off. She was stopped by Josh, and the two went back into the bar for their date.
