Following Zayn Malik’s exit from One Direction, the band’s future seems to be threatened by a looming uncertainty. But according to Simon Cowell, who put up the group five years ago, “great things” are still coming for the four remaining guys of 1D.
As fans of the group across the world are still grieving over Malik’s departure, their mentor and big boss Simon Cowell said that it’s not the end of One Direction.
On his Twitter last March 26, the music producer said that the band will press on as a four-piece with Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan. Cowell is essentially confirming that Malik will not be replaced.
“Sometimes strength is not defined by numbers,” said Cowell on his Twitter account. He also believes that great things will still happen for the boys simply because they have “great talent.” Cowell ended his brief statement by thanking the fans who continue to support the group.
So, what’s next for the group without Zayn?
According to their On The Road Again tour site, the band will still have a series of shows until September. After their Asian leg this week, the group will still be flying to South Africa, Dubai, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Canada and the United States. In between this, the band will be working on a new album, too.
Plucked from obscurity when they individually auditioned for “The X-Factor” over five years ago, Nial, Harry, Liam, Zayn and Louis were brought together by Cowell to compete as a boy band. They did not end up winning the top prize, though, yet they ended up winning the audience’s favor. Each of the band’s members have their own groups of star-crossed loyal followers as well, with Zayn Malik and Harry Styles touted as the most popular boys.
Through the years, the group has been riddled with reports of Zayn quitting, citing that of the five, he’s said to have had the hardest time dealing with fame. But his departure, while painful to One Direction’s fans, may signal the band’s push to move on and move forward to greater heights.
