Chinese actress Zhang JingChu will appear in “Mission: Impossible 5” with A-list  actor Tom Cruise. JingChu, 34, is currently in the United Kingdom for filming. However, her role has not been divulged because her character is crucial to a plot twist in the movie.

JingChu has has 27 films under her belt, including Tsui Hark’s “Seven Swords” and Gu ChangWei’s “Peacock.” “Seven Swords” opened this year’s Venice Film Festival, while “Peacock” won the Berlin Silver Bear. She also starred in “Rush Hour 3” with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.

The actress, who was born in Fujian, studied Directing at the Beijing Central Academy for Drama. She speaks fluent English and conversational Cantonese. She was one of Time Magazine’s Asia Heroes in 2005, and she won Best Actress at the Cairo International Film Festival for her role in Zhang Jiarui’s “The Road”. She has also lent her star power to brands like RADO and Shiseido.

Rumors of marriage and an unplanned pregnancy plagued the actress in February of this year when JingChu was allegedly photographed with an unidentified man at the Dongcheng District Civil Affairs Bureau Marriage Registry. JingChu was quick to deny the rumors, calling them “false news” and stating that she was filming abroad when the photos surfaced.

The first “Mission: Impossible” film, directed by Brian De Palma, was released in 1996. It was a box office hit and has since spawned a film franchise. The fifth installment is being directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who also helmedEdge of Tomorrow.” “Mission: Impossible 5” will open in theaters in 2015.

JingChu is the second Asian actress to join the franchise, the first one being Maggie Q, who starred in “Mission: Impossible 3.” Supporting cast members who are set to return include Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg. JingChu’s casting is projected to help the film generate more profit in the Chinese-speaking world.
