According to Variety, the film announced the latest update by the film’s production company on Thursday. The pic is being shot on location in Wales and Mallorca, Spain.
Set in the wake of an apocalyptic zombie outbreak, the film centers on Melanie (de Gouw) and her boyfriend, Lewis (McCann), who visit a safari retreat – The ReZort – where every paying guest has a license to kill the undead. There they meet Archer (Scott), a former zombie hunter who has to step up when the security system at the ReZort crashes and unleashes thousands of bloodthirsty zombies back into the wild.
“Generation Z” is helmed by director Steve Barker known for the Nazi zombie flicks Outpost and Outpost 2, from a script penned by scribe Paul Gerstenberger. It is a production by Matador Pictures, the Captain Starlight Company and UMedia. Producers are Nigel Thomas and Charlotte Walls of Matador Pictures and Nick Gillott of The Captain Starlight Company. Executive producer is Karl Richards of UMedia, which financed the film, with Gloucester Place Films. UMedia International is handling world sales.
It stars “Arrow” cast member Jessica De Gouw, Martin McCann (“71,” “The Pacific”) and Dougray Scott, best known for his role in “Mission: Impossible 2.”
Dougray Scott appeared in his first role on the television series “Soldier Soldier” and made his film debut in “Twin Town”. His first major film roles were as Prince Henry in “Ever After” and the hero in the film adaptation of the Robert Harris novel “Enigma”. In 2000, he signed up to play the villain in “Mission: Impossible II.” He also played the central villain in the film “Hitman”, based on the popular video game. He later starred with the title role for the modern re-telling of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Steve Barker again for ‘Generation Z’ and thanks to Paul Gerstenberger’s smart, elevated script we couldn’t have asked for a better cast to bring this highly original and disturbing story world to life,” said Charlotte Walls of Matador Pictures.
